Privacy policy
Last updated: 23 October 2026
This policy explains what I collect when you use addistheadvisor.online, talk to me or apply for cover through me. It also explains why I collect it, who else sees it, how long I keep it and what you can ask me to do about it. It follows Jamaica's Data Protection Act, 2020.
Who I am
I'm Addis Ellis. I'm a commission-based insurance agent at Chancellor Insurance Agency, and I sell Sagicor products. I run this website myself. I decide what happens to the personal details collected through it, so I'm the one responsible for them under the law.
You can reach me about privacy at privacy@addistheadvisor.online.
By post: Addis Ellis, c/o Chancellor Insurance Agency, 14 Dominica Drive, Kingston, Jamaica.
My data protection officer is Addis Ellis (me). You can reach me at privacy@addistheadvisor.online or by post at c/o Chancellor Insurance Agency, 14 Dominica Drive, Kingston, Jamaica.
The short version
- The checkup works without your name or email. Your answers stay on your device unless you ask me to email your results.
- If you ask for your results, book a call or message me, I keep your details so I can help you. I only follow up if you agreed.
- I don't send newsletters. Tell me to stop and I stop.
- Health questions only come up if you decide to apply. I ask for your written consent first. Your answers go on Sagicor's paper form, and I don't keep a copy.
- Some of the tools I use store data outside Jamaica, mostly in the United States.
- If you don't buy, I delete your details 2 years after we last spoke, or sooner if you ask.
What I collect and why
The financial checkup
The checkup asks about your children, your income, your savings, your retirement plans, whether you have a will and the cover you already have. The site saves your answers in your own browser so you can pick up where you left off. They don't come to me. Press "Start over" or clear your browser data to remove them.
The checkup doesn't ask for your name or email. You only give them if you choose "Email me my results".
Your results email
If you ask for your results by email, you give me your email address and, if you like, your name. Your browser sends your report to my website's server. The server then:
- sends you the email through Resend, an email service;
- sends me a separate email at my work address at Chancellor Insurance Agency, with your results and whether you ticked the follow-up box;
- saves your name, email, score, top priorities, the date and your follow-up choice in my client notes (more on these below).
The email shows your name, your score, a life insurance rule-of-thumb amount and your top 3 priorities. The rule-of-thumb amount is 20 times the income band you picked, so it gives a rough idea of your income. If you reply to the email, your reply comes to my work email.
Under the email button there's a box you can tick to let me follow up. It's optional and starts unticked. I use these details to send your results, and to follow up only if you ticked the box.
Booking a call
When you book a call, Cal.com (a booking service) collects your name, email and phone number. It also asks about your work, who depends on you, whether you have insurance now, what you need help with, why now and whether you'd go ahead if we find a plan that fits. I use that last answer to decide who to call back first. You choose how much to write.
I use these answers to prepare for our call. They're copied into my client notes, including anything you write in the free text boxes. Please don't put health details in those boxes. We can talk about that on the call.
Cal.com creates a Google Meet link for the call. I send you email reminders 24 hours and 1 hour before the call through Resend.
If you tap a WhatsApp button, WhatsApp opens with a message ready to send. On the checkup page, that message includes your score, your top priorities and your life insurance rule-of-thumb amount. You can change it before you send it. When you message me, I see your number, your WhatsApp name and what you write.
Calls and meetings
We talk on the phone, on Google Meet or in person. On some calls I use Fireflies, a note-taking service that records and transcribes the meeting. I'll always ask before I record. If you say no, we carry on without recording.
A recording holds whatever we say, so it can include health details or details about your family.
Health questions
If you decide to apply for life or health cover, Sagicor needs to know about your health. I'll ask about your medical history, conditions, medicines, smoking and your family's health history.
Health details get extra protection under the law. Before I ask these questions, I'll ask you to agree in writing. I write your answers on Sagicor's paper application form. The form goes to Sagicor. I don't keep a copy, a photo or a scan of it.
Details about other people
You might tell me about other people. For example, a parent applying for cover for a child, the people you name to receive a payout, your dependants, or your partner joining a meeting. Family health history is about other people too.
I only use these details for your application or our conversation. Please let those people know you've shared their details with me.
Technical data
When you visit the site, the hosting service (Vercel) logs technical details such as your IP address and browser type. Cal.com and Make keep similar logs. These help keep the site running and secure.
The site saves 2 small items in your browser: your checkup answers and whether you've turned sound on. It doesn't use advertising cookies or tracking pixels.
Site analytics
The site doesn't use any analytics or session-recording tools. If I add one, I'll update this policy first.
Is anything compulsory?
No. You can use the site without giving me anything. To book a call, I need your name, email and phone number. If you apply for insurance, Sagicor needs the details on its form. Without them, Sagicor can't look at your application.
What this means for you
If you book a call, I'll contact you about that call. I only follow up after that if you agreed (see "Follow-ups" below). If you apply, Sagicor decides whether to offer you cover and on what terms. I don't make that decision.
Where your details go
| Service | What it does for me | Where it stores data |
|---|---|---|
| Vercel | Hosts the website | United States |
| Resend | Sends results emails and call reminders | United States |
| Make | Moves your details from the site and Cal.com into my notes and sets up reminders | United States |
| Notion | My client notes | United States |
| Cal.com | Call booking | Outside Jamaica |
| Google Meet | Video calls | Outside Jamaica |
| Fireflies | Records and transcribes calls, if you agree | United States |
| WhatsApp (Meta) | Messages | Outside Jamaica |
| Chancellor Insurance Agency's email system | Receives my copy of your results and your replies, at my work email | Outside Jamaica |
| Sagicor | Receives your application if you apply | See Sagicor's privacy notice |
Sagicor decides on your application and handles it under its own privacy notice. Ask Sagicor for a copy.
I don't sell your details. I don't share them with anyone else unless the law requires it.
Sending your details outside Jamaica
Most of these services store data in the United States or other countries. Their privacy laws may not match Jamaica's. The Act lets me send your details abroad when you agree, or when it's needed to do what you asked me to do, such as send your results or set up your call. I rely on those 2 grounds.
Follow-ups
I don't send newsletters or mass marketing. I may follow up by email, WhatsApp or phone about your own enquiry. I only do this if you agreed, by ticking the box when you ask for your results or book a call, or by telling me. Every follow-up says it's from me and tells you how to stop. Reply "stop" or email privacy@addistheadvisor.online and I'll stop. If I ever start a newsletter, I'll update this policy and ask you first.
How long I keep your details
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Checkup answers in your browser | Until you press "Start over" or clear your browser |
| Notes, bookings and records if you don't become a client | 2 years after we last spoke |
| Call recordings if you don't become a client | 90 days |
| Records if you become my client | While I'm your agent, plus 2 years after |
| Health answers | I don't keep them. The paper form goes to Sagicor. |
If you ask, I'll delete your details sooner, unless the law requires me to keep them. The services I use also keep short technical logs under their own rules.
Under 18s
This site is for adults 18 and over. I don't knowingly collect details from anyone under 18. If I find out I have, I'll delete them. A parent can give me a child's details to apply for cover for that child.
Keeping your details safe
I'm the only person who uses my website, booking, notes and recording accounts. I protect them with strong passwords and two-step sign-in. The site uses an encrypted (https) connection. If something goes wrong and puts your details at risk, I'll tell the Office of the Information Commissioner and you within 72 hours of finding out.
Your rights
Under the Act, you can ask me to:
- tell you whether I hold your details, what they are, why I have them and who I've shared them with;
- give you a copy of your details, or send them to another company;
- correct details that are wrong or missing;
- stop using your details, or not start. You need to give a reason. The law lists them: the use causes you or someone else serious harm or distress, the details are incomplete or not relevant, the use breaks a law, or I've kept them longer than the law allows;
- stop following up with you.
You can also take back any consent you gave. That doesn't undo what I did before you took it back.
Some of these rights have limits. If I can't do all of what you ask, I'll tell you why in writing. You can then take it to the Information Commissioner.
No computer makes decisions about you that matter. My notes tool tags each booking by how ready you said you are, but I decide what happens next.
How to ask
Email privacy@addistheadvisor.online. The law asks that your request includes:
- your name, date of birth and sex;
- the email or address where I should reply;
- which right you're using;
- the name of the person asking, if it's someone acting for you.
If you find writing hard, tell me by phone or WhatsApp and I'll help you put it in writing. I may ask you to prove who you are. Someone can act for you, such as a parent for a child, or a person you name in writing. The law asks for proof of that too.
Complaining to the Information Commissioner
Please tell me first so I can try to fix it. You can also go straight to the Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC). You can ask the OIC to check whether I'm following the law.
